The tarmac bites into the sand

We see a car every hour or so on this "Thirst Road"... for the time being



On the map the Karakalpakstan desert seemed one of the most uncertain sections of our itinerary. Looking across the Kazakh-Uzbek border, this territory stretches over 400 km and is broken up only by a dotted line (dirt track?), two villages, a prison, a railway line, an aqueduct and a gas pipeline that cross the desert straight as the crow flies.
